Unpleasant, as well as pleasant, sensations can be overwhelming. Imagine that you just received good news, like the telephone call about passing your exam, and you jump up and down…fantastic! However, if that sort of enthusiasm happens to you ten times a day, it can get the best of you.
The other way around can be just as annoying; it’s just not pleasant if you experience an irritating moment, which touches you so intensely and deep down inside. You become overwhelmed –over-charged, so to speak. It’s then you notice that there’s no healthy control over what happens to you. That is what I call bodystressmanagement: the management of your sensations.
If that happens, I can offer postponement, so that you can get yourself better under control (via your own bodystressmanagement). Because, by delaying a sensation, you then have the choice to change something. Guiding/ steering yourself this way is the actual management.
